Studio Sessions for “Art For Adults”
Art for Adults Sessions. 2024.
Last week I finally did what I was promising myself I would do before I was 30; write and record my own record with my own music! Although I was a few years late, I’m happy to say that the record is finally recorded and done and will be out in early 2025.
The songs feature Jordan Cortese (bass, drums, and percussion) and Beau Brady (drums), two mainstays in my musician starting lineup.
Shortly after the Covid-19 shutdown in Spring of 2020, I discovered that in the void of the 9am-to-5pm rat race, my mind started to crave more creative and fruitful outlets. Outside of my regular guitar practicing, I started painting and sketching. I had never had those cravings before. These new pathways really changed how I looked at and conceptualized music and art - and life.
Anyways, the title “Art for Adults” and its corresponding musical and visual ideas represent what can happen when we stray from our natural appetites for music, art, language, and nature.
The entirety of this record is a symbolic reminder for me in that THIS is the result of listening to the muse and looking forward - instead of standing still and being comfortable.
I’ve titled the record “Art for Adults” after a scene I saw on an Upper East Side street corner in New York City during the COVID-19 shutdown in Summer 2020.
I feel like the album cover speaks for itself, but to me the image signifies more than just a discarded cardboard box; but more so how a lot of us throw our dreams away for other distractions - some more temporary than others.
The song choices were from all over the place. A couple songs I’ve been tinkering with for over a decade. Others came about almost instantaneously; floating onto the notepad like it was already written. For me as the song-writer, it was an almost full deluge of finally getting these songs set in concrete.
As much as I feel like I pushed myself forward on each recording, I do look forward to getting ahead of even these tunes - and getting back to setting up more projects and sessions.
